Quantitative Psychology PhD and Data Science MS student at University of Virginia

Teaching Philosophy

I began studying pedagogy as an undergraduate English minor and have been teaching as a teaching assistant and grader since 2013 for both qualitative (i.e., leading discussions for more traditional philosophical text-based courses) and quantitative courses (i.e., teaching statistics and logic). Over the years, I have developed a pedagogical stance that is student-centered and aimed at inclusivity and accessibility. My main aim as a teacher is to introduce problem-solving methods to my students with the ultimate goal of not simply memorizing answers and formulas, but learning critical-thinking skills that can be applied to real-world scenarios, allowing my students to take ownership of what they have learned in our course.
